Public History Faculty

Auburn University is one of the few R-1 universities in the nation to have two research faculty members who specialize in public history.

Keith S. Hébert joined the Auburn University faculty in 2014 where he directs the department’s public history certificate program and offers courses in public history and southern history. Previously, Hébert worked for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Historic Preservation Division as the state historian. Read more about Dr. Hébert.

Elijah Gaddis studies the spatial, material and cultural histories of the 19th- and 20th-century South. He joined the Auburn faculty in 2017, and teaches courses in digital humanities, southern history, and African American history. He is also an active public historian and co-director of the Community Histories Workshop. Read more about Dr. Gaddis.
